SUNSET ~ Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 23, 2025 at a 3:15 Mass of Christian Burial in St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church for David Potier, Jr., age 65, who passed away Sunday, October 19, 2025 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette surrounded by his family and friends.
The Rev. Aaron Melancon, pastor of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, will officiate at the services. Readers will be his three granddaughters, Kynli Noel Kraft, Tadym Broussard Sweeney, and Jordyn Landry.
Mr. Potier, lovingly referred to as “Poppa”, was a native of Blytheville, Arkansas, and a resident of Sunset, Louisiana for the past fifty years. He was employed with Acadian Ambulance for seventeen years, serving his community as a dedicated paramedic. In addition, he was the proud owner and operator of Trim Masters for thirty years, where he showcased his skill and passion as a talented finish carpenter.
A devoted parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Mr. Potier lived a life grounded in faith, hard work, and love for his family. He enjoyed good food, laughter, and especially spending time with his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. Known for his big heart and his sense of humor, those who knew him would often say his heart was even bigger than his body.
He will be remembered for his kindness, devotion, and the joy he brought to those around him.
Survivors include his wife of forty-five years, Tammie Dodge Potier of Sunset; one daughter, Summer Potier Landry and her husband, Jeremie, of Carencro, and son-in-law Poose Noel; four grandchildren, Kynli Noel Kraft and her husband, Zakarey, of Sunset, Tadym Broussard Sweeney and her husband, Hunter, of Jacksonville, NC, Jordyn Landry of Carencro, and Parker Landry of Carencro; his mother, Mary Jane Alleman Potier; three sisters, Pauline Stoute and her husband, Lawrence, of MS, Janet Duos and her husband, Robert, of Shreveport, and Missy Vincent and her husband, T. Joe, of Scott; one brother-in-law, Dennis Dodge of Baton Rouge; one sister-in-law, Melinda Potier of Lafayette; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Desiree Potier Noel; his father, Joseph Potier David, Sr.; his father and mother-in-law, Telemarque Dodge and Margaret Sibille Dodge; step father-in-law, A.C. Barry; one brother, Gary Potier; and one sister-in-law, Cheryl Dodge.
A rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home by his loving cousin, Mona Menard.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Melancon Funeral Home, Evangeline Memorial Gardens, 4117 N. University Ave, Carencro LA, 70520, from 9:00 a.m. Thursday until service time on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Jeremie Landry, Poose Noel, Hunter Sweeney, Zakarey Kraft, Dennis Dodge, Johnathan Taylor, Parker Landry, and T. Joe Vincent. Honorary pallbearers will be Lawrence Stoute, Robert Duos, Jonah Duos, Stuart Faul, Larry Lagneaux, Fils Prejean, Tyler Potier, Dustin Warren, and Robbie Duos, Jr.
