David Morrison

David Charles Morrison, age 93 of Hendersonville, passed away May 14th at Hendersonville Health and Rehab.

Born in Somerville, MA, he was the son of the late Kenneth Charles Morrison and Augusta Morrison. He was a 1949 graduate of Framingham High School, Framingham MA, and received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Worchester Polytechnic Institute, Worchester MA, in 1953. After graduation, he worked as an engineer for the E.I. Dupont Company at the Savannah River Atomic Energy Facility outside Augusta, Georgia. In 1956 he married his beloved wife Betty in Augusta and in 1957 they moved to Caripito, Venezuela for two years at Standard Oil of New Jersey Caripito Oil refinery.

Following a return to the United States in 1959 he was employed in various management positions at oil refineries in Mississippi, Indiana, and California as well as operations manager of C.F. Industries Phosphate Chemical Facilities in central Florida. He retired in 1988 as vice president and general manager of Paramount Petroleum’s heavy oil refinery in Bakersfield, CA before moving to Paradise, CA for 12 years. In 2002 he moved to Hendersonville to be closer to family and to enjoy the many outdoor activities in the mountains. He was a registered professional engineer in two states, an antique woodworking tool collector, and an avid poker player. He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Hendersonville NC.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty of 60 years. He is survived by a daughter, Melanie Wiener, and her husband Rich of Asheville: sons Steven and his wife, Lin Jing of Wake Forest, NC., Russell Morrison of Jupiter, Florida, and Glenn Morrison and his wife Clara Eichler of Chapel Hill NC; four beloved Grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
