Darlene Ann Demetres-Allgauer, age 71, a resident of Elizabeth City, NC, died at her home on August 7, 2025. She was born in Bay Shore, NY, on October 4, 1953, to the late Timothy Demetres and Helen Biernat Demetres, and was the beloved wife of Michael George Allgauer. She was an amazing Nana to her beloved grandchildren. Darlene was always fashionable and well-dressed, kept a beautifully decorated home, loved the beach and gardening, and had a deep love for all animals, but especially for her dogs. She dedicated many years of her career to management in the hospitality industry, where she was known for her dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to excellence. Her professionalism and warm demeanor left a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of working with her.
Darlene is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years of marriage, Michael; two sons, Jason Allgauer of Long Island, NY and Matthew Allgauer (Aja) of Stroudsburg, PA; a sister, Lynne Ciavarelli; three brothers, Tim Demetres, Andrew Demetres (Noreen), and Jim Demetres (Janet); and five grandchildren, Jason (Alyssa), Matthew, Grace, Preston, and Brayden. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Larry Demetres.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Alex Gonzalez officiating. A visitation will be held from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2025 at Twiford Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Darlene’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at donors@stjude.org.
Darlene will be remembered for her kindness, grace, and the love she extended to those around her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
