Daniel Smith, Sr.

Daniel Smith, Sr. departed peacefully to be with the Lord at the age of eighty-nine (89) in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. His sunrise began on May 4, 1936, when he was born in Galloway, New Jersey. He is one of eleven children born to the late James William Oscar Smith, Sr. & Aremilla M. Vickers-Smith. 

He was married to his sweetheart, Eva Levonne Smith, for sixty-six years. From this union seven children were born, five daughters and two sons. In addition, Dan leaves to mourn twelve grandchildren, four great-grandsons, two daughters-in-law and three sons-in-law.

Daniel attended Egg Harbor City High School, in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey. He retired after serving twenty-seven years on The Conrail Railroad in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as a Railroad Watchman. Throughout his life he was known to be a personable and friendly person. Known for his warm smile and his gift to talk, he never met a stranger, only new friends yet to be discovered.

Daniel is predeceased by his parents, James W.O. Smith, Sr. and Aremilla (Vickers) Smith; and his siblings, Lester Smith, Hassie (Richard) Wood, Thomas (Booster) Smith, Samuel (Marion) Smith, Grover Smith, William (Bill) & (Mollie) Smith, James W. O. Smith Jr., and Lawrence (Bessie) Smith and Dr. Alberta Johnson (Earl).

On July 31, 2025, his serene sunset gently embraced him, painting the sky with the colors of a life well lived. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on through his family’s cherished memories.

He leaves to cherish his wife – Eva Levonne Smith; seven children, Eva Levonne (Lawrence) of Weymouth, NJ, Daniel Smith Jr. (Susan) of Egg Harbor City, NJ and Sharon Smith of Hammonton, NJ, Theresa Mitchell (Steve) of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, and James W.O. Smith III (Joy) of Newtonville, NJ, Roshelle Smith-Beach (Jay) of Leonardtown, Maryland, and Shana’ Smith of Egg Harbor City, N.J.; seven granddaughters, Nicole, Tyneshia, Taria, Mariah, Taylor, Sanaa’ and Sydney; five grandsons, Lawrence Jr., James IV., Steven, Jr., Jose’ Estrada IV and Rasheed Cates- Smith and four great grandsons, Jaxon, Lukas, Lawrence III, Jeremy, Jr.; his beloved sister, Estella (Reuben) Feagins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
