Daniel “Dan” DiLoreto, 79, beloved husband passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28th surrounded by the love of his wife and family. He was the son of Dan and Erminia (Pizzoferrato) DeLoreto. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Delia DiLoreto; sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Richard Rightmyer; nephew, David Rightmyer; sister-in-law, Sheila Pitkin; grand-nephew, Hamed Hamzehdoost; and mother-in-law, Elizabeth Empie.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jody (Empie) DiLoreto; brother-in-law, Dr. Richard Pitkin; nieces and nephews, Cathy (Joe) Pusateri, Jocelyn Rightmyer, Cynthia Pitkin, Rebecca (David) Fasulo, Alson Pitkin, Jennifer (Frank) Palumbo and Alex (Shari) Pitkin; grand-nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Dan graduated from John Marshall High School in 1964 and received his B.S. in mechanical engineering from RPI, where he was a member of Sigma Chi, in 1968. He began his 40 year career at Bausch and Lomb in the engineering department and rose to become a key contributor on engineering projects, facility construction and real estate transactions across the company. Most notably, Dan provided oversight on the design and construction of the Tampa pharmaceutical plant and the Bausch and Lomb World Headquarters building in downtown Rochester. He also worked on projects in Ireland and India. Dan had a quick, analytical mind and provided valuable insights; he was highly visible throughout the company as his job responsibilities kept him on the move to various facilities in and outside of Rochester. He retired from B & L in 2010.
He was a member of ASHRAE and served as president of the local chapter. He was elected to the board of Rochester District Heating Cooperative in 1996, served as chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, and was elected president of the Board in 2010, serving in that capacity until the present.
A long-standing member of Locust Hill Country Club, he played in the men’s golf league, was a member of the “Pigs” and had a hole-in-one to his credit. He was a great mentor and storyteller, as well as someone who enjoyed a good joke. His interests included time spent with family and friends, lunch with his former colleagues, golf, plays, RPO concerts, jazz, more golf, travel to Cape Cod and Florida, and a glass of good wine.
He was a faithful son, beloved husband, much loved brother, brother-in-law, son-in-law and favorite uncle. He will be missed by many.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. Aram Hezel, the staff of Wilmot Cancer Center, the palliative care unit at Strong, and Dr. Joanne Nazareth. Those wishing may make donations in Dan’s honor to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or WXXI.
Friends may call to the funeral chapel (2305 Monroe Avenue) Saturday, October 11th from 3-5 pm. Additionally, all are invited to a Celebration of Life service in the All Seasons Chapel at White Haven Memorial Park (210 Marsh Rd., Pittsford) Sunday, October 12th at 1 pm.
