Remembering Daniel Cuevas Fisch: A Life of Faith, Love, and Service
Daniel Cuevas Fisch, 42, passed away on April 11, 2025, in Irwindale, California, in a tragic car accident. His departure leaves a profound void in countless lives that were brightened by his extraordinary compassion and unwavering faith. A natural extrovert who genuinely delighted in human connection, Daniel’s kindness was not merely a trait but the essence of who he was.
A man whose Roman Catholic faith guided every aspect of his life, Daniel didn’t simply practice his beliefs—he embodied them. Through dedicated service in the Liturgical Ministry and quiet acts of generosity, he evangelized not with words but through the eloquence of his actions, living his faith authentically every day.
Born on July 10, 1982, in West Covina, California, to Gerald and Elvira Fisch, Daniel grew up in Claremont alongside his younger brother Steven in a home where faith, education, and family were cherished.
His academic journey began at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School, where he was part of the inaugural Kindergarten class, graduating in 1996. At Damien High School, he distinguished himself through excellence in Advanced Placement courses, graduating with Honors in 2000. Daniel continued to the University of California, Riverside, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science in 2004. His thirst for knowledge led him to Cornell Law School, where he earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 2007.
Daniel’s legal career began at Cahill, Gordon & Reindel LLP, where he practiced law in both New York and Washington D.C. His path eventually brought him back to Southern California, where he first served as a Law Clerk for a Judge in the Central District Court of California before accepting an Attorney Advisor position with the Social Security Administration, which he held for the last 13 years. He possessed a rare gift for attentive listening, with colleagues, friends, and family members knowing that a conversation with Daniel meant receiving his undivided attention and thoughtful advice born from genuine care.
Daniel’s intellectual curiosity was a testament to his zest for life and learning. An avid reader with seemingly boundless knowledge, he engaged thoughtfully on virtually any subject. His diverse passions ranged from horse racing to target shooting. At home, he found joy in craftsmanship through brewing beer and baking bread. His musical acumen shone in NPR’s Piano Puzzler, where he would effortlessly identify classical compositions cleverly disguised in popular melodies, often impressing others with his expansive trivia knowledge spanning history, literature, science, music, and beyond.
In 2010, Daniel met Stephania Ramirez through a mutual friend, beginning an extraordinary love story. Their connection was so genuine that strangers would often stop them on the street to comment on the visible affection between them. As kindred spirits who perfectly complemented one another, they created a life centered on their mutual passions for family, learning, travel, culture, and the arts. Through every challenge and triumph, their devotion to one another remained an enduring example of what true love can be.
Daniel’s love for the outdoors and daily walks with his beloved standard poodle, Wolk, became a neighborhood fixture. Together, they turned casual encounters into lasting friendships, as Daniel’s sincere interest in others and Wolk’s irresistible charm welcomed people into their circle.
The crowning joy of Daniel’s life arrived on January 3, 2025, with the birth of his daughter, Elke Genevieve. In their precious three months together, Daniel embraced fatherhood with a devotion that seemed to have been waiting within him always. He approached this sacred calling with boundless joy, patience, and grace. The bond between father and daughter was immediate and profound—both sharing his characteristic wide smile, booming laugh, and gift of gab.
Though his time with us was far too brief, Daniel’s legacy endures in the countless lives he touched with his wisdom, kindness, and boundless love. He showed us how to live with purpose, serve with humility, and love without reservation.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a GoFundMe to support Stephania and Elke as they navigate this unimaginable loss: https://gofund.me/cfb3b483
