Speed, strategy and school spirit took center stage this past weekend as students from across Carson City gathered for the inaugural Mario Kart Championship, a cross-school competition hosted by Bordewich Bray Elementary and sponsored by the Northwest Regional Professional Development Program.
The one-day event brought together 20 participants from several schools for a thrilling afternoon of racing, as competitors battled it out on the virtual tracks of Mario Kart.
In the end, Samuel Salanoa from Carson Middle School claimed the title of Mario Kart Champion, with Carson Middle School’s Cameron King earning second place.
Third place went to Matias Maciel from Bordewich Bray Elementary and Adam Espinoza, also from Carson Middle School, took home fourth. The top racers were awarded 3D-printed trophies, generously donated by community members Bruce Lowry and Gina Spence.
“This tournament was a fantastic way to bring students together in a fun, engaging environment,” said Rachel Croft, who organized the event. “It showed how friendly competition builds community and excitement across grades and schools.”
The event also drew an enthusiastic crowd of families, with many dads attending to cheer on their students. With sharp turns, colorful characters and unpredictable power-ups, the races kept players and spectators alike on the edge of their seats.
A special thanks goes out to Carson Middle School Leadership students Jaime, Andrik, Autumn and Camille, whose hard work and support helped make the community event a success.
