Carson City’s Catmandu introduces their Cat of the Week: Destiny
- May 23, 2025

At first glance, you might think Destiny is a kitten. We did too. But this soft, sweet, wide-eyed four-year-old is just surprisingly petite. She weighs under 5 pounds. Destiny’s story, however, is what makes her truly unforgettable.
Destiny was rescued from a heartbreaking hoarding situation in Douglas County, where nearly 200 cats were crammed into a single home.
When she arrived at the shelter, she was shut down, severely ill, and barely surviving. Calicivirus had ravaged her little body, leaving painful ulcerations in her nose, mouth, and digestive tract.
Her third eyelids had grown over her eyes, leaving her nearly blind and terrified.
That’s when the call came to Catmandu, and Destiny’s new path began.
Once at Catmandu, Dr. Sean Peck of All Creatures Mobile Vet Services, provided Destiny very urgent health care.
Additionally, the entire team at Catmandu including our director, began around the clock loving attention.
She was syringe-fed, treated with homeopathy, and gently comforted as she began recovery.
It wasn’t long before her spark returned.
Today, she’s purring, snuggling, and exploring her world with the tiny pinholes of vision she still has. But the best is yet to come: Catmandu is financing life-changing surgery to help restore Destiny’s sight, and with it, her future.
She may be small, but Destiny has a mighty heart and an unshakable spirit. She’s affectionate, trusting, and filled with gratitude for the simple joys of love and comfort.
Destiny needs someone to care for her as she awaits her upcoming surgery. As such, she is available as a foster-to-adopt only. After surgery she’ll be ready to begin the next chapter of her life with you.
If you’re looking for a sweet, snuggly companion with a whole lot of character, Destiny is ready to settle into your heart. Come meet her this weekend at Catmandu.
We are open Friday – Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm at 1829 Brown Street.
Catmandu is a non-profit organization that receives no government funding or assistance from national organizations. We rely on donations and the generosity of the community to continue our lifesaving efforts.
