The Carson High Safe Grad Committee invites the community to lace up their running shoes for the second annual Veterans Day Fun Run on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Korean War Veterans Memorial Park located at 600 Marsh Rd, Carson City. The event includes a 5K run starting at 9 a.m. and a 1-mile fun run beginning at 9:15 a.m.

Proceeds from the event will help fund the 2026 Safe Grad celebration, a volunteer-led program that provides graduating seniors with a safe, sober night of celebration following commencement. This year, a portion of proceeds will also support Nation’s Finest, a nonprofit organization serving local veterans and their families.

Registration is open now at www.carsonhighsafegrad.com/fun-run.html. The race is open to runners and walkers of all ages and experience levels, with space for up to 150 participants.

“Safe Grad is a tradition that gives our seniors one last chance to celebrate together in a safe, substance-free environment,” said Sara Romeo, president of the Carson High Safe Grad Committee. “This event is about more than raising money. It’s about showing our students that their community believes in them, supports them, and wants to see them start this next chapter safely and successfully.”

Romeo added that the committee is also proud to support Nation’s Finest this year, noting the significance of hosting the run on Veterans Day.

“Giving back to those who’ve served our country makes this event even more meaningful,” Romeo said. “It’s an opportunity for our community to honor both our future graduates and our local veterans at the same time.”

The Safe Grad program is entirely volunteer-run and relies on fundraising events like the Fun Run, sponsorships, and donations from local families and businesses. Each dollar raised helps cover the cost of hosting a special night for Carson High seniors, one that keeps them safe while celebrating their accomplishments.

“We’re so thankful for the incredible businesses and organizations that stand behind Safe Grad and our students year after year,” Romeo said. “Their generosity makes this event possible and helps us create something truly special for our graduates.”
