Carson City deputies make arrests for DUI, alleged felony domestic battery and assault with deadly weapon

A 45-year-old man was arrested May 31 for suspicion of domestic battery with strangulation and assault with a deadly weapon, both felony offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.
Brandon Niel Brauchoff was taken into custody at 11:18 p.m. following an investigation. According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched to the 200 block of David Street for a domestic battery call.
Dispatch advised the man had head butted a woman and pulled a knife on her. The female was standing outside when deputies arrived. Dispatch advised who the man was, that he had violent tendencies and had been arrested for resisting an officer in the past.
On arrival, a CCSO deputy observed the victim on her front porch with suspect Brauchoff. The deputy exited their vehicle and observed the victim running toward them. She said the man was standing at the front door. The deputy contacted the man. Based on the information that the man had a knife, the deputy drew their weapon and pointed it at the man. The man had a steel dog water bowl in one hand an an object in the second hand. The deputy told the man to drop both objects and place his hands behind his head. The man did not. The man then approached the exit to his porch, walked toward the officer with both objects in his hands. Other deputies arrived to assist, the report states.
The suspect then approached the exit door and dropped both objects but continued walking toward the officer. The deputy continued to tell the man to place his hands behind his head. The man didn’t comply. The man had a fanny pack on his waist with multiple sheaths and unknown attachments. He was subsequently tasered and taken into custody.
Deputies met with the victim who advised she and the man were in their bedroom and began to argue. She said the man got angry and head butted her, causing her to fall on her back on the bed. She said the man then got on top of her and placed his left hand on her neck, took out a black knife and had it in his right hand. She said her son turned on the light in the bedroom and the suspect put the knife away.
She said she then ran into a different room and contacted law enforcement. Deputies observed the woman had redness on her nose. After medics evaluated the suspect, deputies spoke to him and read him his Miranda rights. The man did not wish to speak. He was medically cleared, arrested and taken to jail for suspicion of domestic battery with strangulation and assault with a deadly weapon. Bail: $20,000.
In other arrests:
— A 65-year-old Carson City man was arrested May 31 for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, a Department of Alternative Sentencing violation and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $2,500.
— A 24-year-old Reno man was arrested Sunday for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and failure to use a turn signal, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.
At around 10:40 a.m. CCSO deputies responded to a convenience store in the 3900 block of Highway 50 East in an attempt to locate a DUI driver. Dispatch advised two men arrived at the gas station/convenience store in a Chevy Tahoe. When the men exited, both appeared to be stumbling into the store. Additionally, dispatch advised of the license plate number.
Deputies arrived in the area and observed the vehicle, which matched the description provided by dispatch. The vehicle was traveling east, adjacent to Highway 50 East. The deputy observed the vehicle turn south and come to a complete stop at the stop sign. The deputy then noticed the driver did not use his turn signal before turning right onto Highway 50 East. As the vehicle turned right, it swerved to the right and both of the passenger-side tires went over the curb and momentarily corrected back onto the travel lane, the report states.
Due to the circumstances, the deputy initiated a traffic stop and activated their overhead emergency lights. The vehicle came to a complete stop on Highway 50 East south of College Parkway.
The deputy approached the driver’s door and contacted the driver and passenger. During contact with the driver, the deputy noticed a moderate odor of alcohol coming from his person. He had red, watery eyes and slurred speech. The deputy asked the man if he had been drinking. He said he had three beers at a job site earlier. The deputy asked if he would conduct standardized field sobriety tests. He agreed. The tests were done, where the man showed signs of impairment and was arrested for suspicion of DUI.
The man agreed to a preliminary and evidentiary breath test. During the preliminary breath test he provided a breath sample of .248. During the evidentiary test he provided samples with results of .221 and .211. Bail: $1,137.
— A 19-year-old Sparks woman was arrested Sunday for suspicion of DUI and possession of a controlled substance.
According to the booking report, deputies were called at 4:48 p.m. to the 6700 block of Highway 50 East regarding a dispute. The reporting party, who would become the suspect, advised to dispatch she picked up her friend/girlfriend in a gray Volkswagen Jetta and that she was being threatened and advised someone was threatening to shoot her, the report states. She said they were stopped on the east side of Highway 50.
When deputies arrived on scene they made contact with the woman making the allegations and a second female. While speaking, the deputy observed objective signs of being under the influence of drugs. Her eyes were glossy, her pupils appeared constricted, her mouth was dry and she had white residue on her lips and on her tongue. Her eyes were bouncing quickly from left to right without any stimulation, the report states.
Field sobriety tests was conducted and she was unable to complete the tests satisfactorily. Her vehicle was towed and a tow inventory was complete. During the inventory, 19.8 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms were located in the vehicle. She was booked for alleged DUI and possession of a controlled substance. Bail: $2,500.
— A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Monday for suspicion of DUI and suspended registration.
According to the booking report, at 2:15 a.m. a deputy was on a passing check at the Kings Canyon trailhead parking lot when they saw a vehicle leaving the closed parking lot.
The deputy followed the vehicle down Kings Canyon Road and ran the license plate, which returned as being suspended. The deputy followed the vehicle and was looking for a safe place to make a traffic stop, when they smelled burning rubber coming from the suspect vehicle.
The deputy followed the vehicle and saw pieces of rubber flying off the front of the vehicle. The deputy activated their red and blue flashing lights and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle stopped at Kings Canyon Road and Ormsby Boulevard. As the deputy walked up to the vehicle they could see the right front tire was flat and shredded and still had smoke coming from it.
The deputy contacted the occupants of the vehicle from the passenger front window. The driver provided a Nevada driver’s license and the passenger provided a Nevada identification card. Both subjects were run through dispatch and returned clear. While speaking to the driver, the deputy observed an almost empty bottle of vodka in the driver’s side floorboard. The deputy asked the man to exit the vehicle to speak. While patting down the man for weapons, the deputy could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. He also had red watery eyes, the report states.
The deputy asked the man if he would consent to standardized field sobriety tests. The man said yes and the tests were taken. The man showed signs of impairment on the tests. He was asked to provide a preliminary breath test and refused a breath sample, the report states.
Based on his driving pattern, the strong odor of alcohol coming from his person, the red and watery eyes and performance on the standardized field sobriety tests, the man was arrested for suspicion of DUI. He was read the request for voluntary evidence. The man said he understood and agreed to provide a breath sample. He was taken to jail where he provided evidentiary samples of .193 and .179. Bail: $1,137.
— A 56-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 9:22 p.m. for suspicion of DUI. According to the booking report, a deputy responded to the 3000 block of North Roop Street in reference to locate a possible intoxicated driver.
Another deputy located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The arresting deputy responded to 22 Granite Way to conduct a DUI investigation. Upon arrive, the deputy made contact with the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. While speaking to the man the deputy could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person and observed his eyes to be red and watery. The suspect driver also had heavy, slurred speech, the report states.
The deputy asked if he would participate in standardized field sobriety tests. The man consented. The driver stated the last time he had alcohol was at around 6 p.m. The man showed signs of impairment on the tests. Due to the results of the test, the odor of alcohol on the man’s breath, his slurred speech and red, watery eyes, he was placed under arrest for misdemeanor DUI.
He provided a preliminary breath test with a result of .288. Due to the man’s high PBT result, he was taken to the hospital for medical clearance. The man was read the request for voluntary evidentiary testing. The man volunteered to an evidentiary breath test. He was taken to jail where he provided breath tests with results of .212 and .203. He was booked without incident. Bail: $1,137.
