Carson City arrests, prohibited firearm possession, narcotics, warrants

Possession of a firearm by prohibited person

A 37-year-old Carson City man, Shannon Thomas Ebernickel, was arrested early Friday morning for felony possession of a firearm by prohibited person and felony possession of a controlled substance.

During a traffic stop near College Parkway and Goni Road, deputies approached the vehicle and asked the driver for his license and insurance, while speaking with the driver, the deputy observed the passenger, identified has Ebernickel, to be allegedly holding a torch lighter with sticky black residue on his fingertips consistent with the use of smoking narcotics. 

According to the arrest report, both subjects names were ran through dispatch and returned clear of warrants. However, dispatch informed deputies of Ebernickel’s previous drug possessions and possession of a firearm without a permit.

Deputies asked Ebernickel to step out of the vehicle and asked to search his person, Ebernickel said no.

Ebernickel was informed that based on his previous history, a pat search for weapons would be conducted. 

In the arrest report, an eyeglass case in his front jacket pocket was found containing a glass pipe and a container of crystalline residue.

The other subject consented to a search of his person and car, nothing was found except for a backpack that allegedly belonged to Ebernickel.  

A K-9 unit was dispatched to the scene and found a positive alert on the vehicle, at which time Ebernickel stated he did not consent to the search of his back pack.

Deputies continued to search the vehicle and back pack and found a firearm without a serial number inside the back pack. 

The firearm was described as a loaded Polymer 80, with a 17 round Glock magazine with no serial number, the magazine was loaded with two 9mm rounds, according to the arrest report.

Ebernickel was taken into custody and arrested for felony possession of a firearm by prohibited person, felony possession of a controlled substance, gross misdemeanor possession of a firearm with no serial number, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

The firearm, magazine, holster, two 9mm rounds, five glass pipes, small clear container, and suspected methamphetamine were booked into evidence. 

Bail: $15,637 

Possession of a controlled substance

A 29-year-old Carson City man Michael Luis Costa Jr. was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia on Thursday morning in an apartment complex off College Parkway. 

The reporting party called to report a vehicle parked by the laundry room of the complex and were refusing to move.  

According to the arrest report, dispatch said that Costa allegedly threatened a tenet’s wife with a firearm a few days prior. 

Upon deputy arrival the white suburban was stationed behind an apartment unit and laundry room running an extension cord from the building to the vehicle. 

Deputies made contact with Costa and a female sleeping in the vehicle. Costa was asked to exit the vehicle and asked if he was allowed to possess a firearm,  he allegedly said no. 

According to the arrest report a search of the vehicle was conducted, a makeup bag with drugs was found. The female said the drugs allegedly belonged to Costa and Costa confirmed with deputies that they were his. 

Costa was taken to the Carson City Jail. 

Bail: $8,087

A 33-year-old Carson City man Matthew Ryan Patellos was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance on Thursday morning. 

According to the arrest report, he was stopped for driving a motorcycle without a license plate eastbound on highway 50. Dispatch conducted a records check and advised that Patellos had past arrests for possession of narcotics. 

Dispatch aslo advised that he was in the DAS program (Department of Alternative Sentencing), at which time the duty asked Patellos if he would consent to a search and Patellos allegedly replied only DAS can search him. 

Deputy then stated that they were advising him to consent to a search, which he did. While conducting the search on his person, a Zyn can was located in his pocket with white powdery crystals inside, according to the arrest report. 

Patellos was placed under arrest and the suspected methaphanmine was booked into evidence to be tested by the crime lab. 

Bail: $6,112

Warrants

A 60-year-old Carson City man was arrested for violation of suspended sentence Thursday evening on the 100 block of Rice Street. The reporting party advised dispatch they saw a Facebook post stating that the Carson City Sheriff’s Office was looking for the man who had an outstanding warrant. 

The deputies made contact with the man upon arrival to the location where he was seen by the reporting party, was informed of his active warrant, and taken to the Carson City Jail without incident. 

Bail: $1,000

A 64-year-old Carson City man was arrested for an outside agency warrant Thursday night on the 2700 block of Merrimac Way. 

Deputies were dispatched in regards to a dispute happening at the location, according to the arrest report. 

The roommate of the man allegedly stated that he wanted him to leave the house because he thought the man was under the influence of drugs. 

Deputies then conducted a records check on the man that returned a warrant out of the the Carson City Justice Court and he was transported to the Carson City Jail without further incident. 

Bail: $3,000
