By Elinor Bugli — Carson City Symphony Association announces the retirement of Dr. Gary Schwartz, director of Carson Chamber Singers, and the search for his successor.

Applications are open until Saturday, June 14, 2025.
Gary Schwartz, who earned his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and studied choral conducting at Northern Illinois University, joined the Mathematics Department at Western Nevada College in 2010.
He began singing with the Carson Chamber Singers in 2012 and became director in 2023. He also has directed the Carson City Symphony Association’s early music ensemble, Consort Canzona. He plans to retire and leave the area after the Singers’ performance with the Carson City Symphony on July 4, 2025, at the Genoa American Celebration at Mormon Station Park in Genoa, NV.
Carson Chamber Singers rehearse weekly and perform in four or more concerts each year. Since their founding in 1985, they have performed in Carson City, Reno, Virginia City, Minden, Genoa, and Fallon, and in California. Membership is open to all singers, high school age and above, who have intermediate to advanced-level musical experience.
