Burness Smalling Hamilton

Burness Smalling Hamilton, 97, of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 18, 2025. She was born on March 23, 1928, in Loudon, TN. Burness worked for over 40 years at Knoxville TVA Credit Union before her retirement. She was a long-time member of Valley Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Anderson Hamilton; daughter, Karen Elaine Kirby; parents, George and Elsie Smalling; brothers, Osbond and Orville Smalling; sister, Burnell McNabb; brother-in-law, Paul Leonard Hamiton; and parents-in-law, Athol and Sudie Hamilton.

Burness is survived by her son, Charles Trent Hamilton (Debra); son-in-law, Kenneth Kirby; grandchildren, Isaac Kirby, John Kirby, Jared Hamilton (Jessica), and Jordan Hamilton (April); great-grandchildren, Joel Kirby, Thomas Kirby, Matthan Kirby, Weston Kirby, Jack Hamilton, and June Hamilton; sister-in-law, Clara Holt of Old Hickory, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Valley Grove Baptist Church, 9000 Sevierville Pike, Knoxville, TN 37920.

The Graveside Service will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, October 22nd in Sherwood Memorial Gardens, 3176 Airport Hwy, Alcoa, TN 37701. Arrangements are in the care of Atchley Funeral Home, Seymour. Online condolences may be made at www.atchleyfuneralhome.com.
