Bryan Cryer

Bryan Wayne Cryer (59) passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, after living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) for 12 years. He was born August 22, 1965, to Walter Cryer, Jr. and Patricia Anne (Wagner) in Provo, Utah. He is the seventh of eight children.

Bryan grew up in Orem, Utah. He loved being active. In high school, he was on the golf, diving, and tennis teams. He won several awards for his woodworking and cabinet-making skills. He served on a church mission to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and later graduated from Brigham Young University in 1992.

He married the love of his life, Michelle Stevenson, on December 29, 1989, in the Portland, Oregon Temple. He enjoyed working with his hands and used his skills to build his family a beautiful home in Pleasant Grove, Utah, where they raised their four children. He cherished being a father and included his children whenever he could. From finishing basements, soda runs (aka Coke 30), errands, fishing, skiing, or rock climbing, he was always spending time with his children. He loved being a grandpa.

He shared his talents by finishing basements and building cabinets as a general contractor. For the last several years, Bryan worked as an estimator for a building company.

He loved everything outdoors—camping, rock climbing, backpacking, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, golf, and pickleball. He shared this love by going on over 110 scouting campouts and taking his family on many treasured adventures. Bryan was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in numerous callings over the years.

Many were recipients of Bryan’s generous nature. Whether it was the grocery store clerks he bought candy bars for or paying for someone’s items in line behind him, he was always looking for ways to put a smile on someone’s face. He was genuine and a friend to all.

While ALS stole his ability to speak and trapped him in a body that he could not use, he still found things to be grateful for and enjoyed making others laugh. He saw God’s hand throughout his journey. Thank you to the many friends and family who provided support and loving care over the past few months.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle; four children: Nathan Bryan, Scott Hunter, Kayla Michelle, and Rebecca Anne; his bonus children: Alan Brinkerhoff and Mazie (Reneer) Cryer; his grandchildren: Vivian Elaine Cryer and Bennett Blaine Cryer; his siblings: Catherine (Thomas) Peterson, Thomas Cryer, Janette (Michael) Johnson, David Cryer, Lucretia (Tadd) Wright, Elizabeth (Layne) Bangerter, and Emily (Greg) Rowberry. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Patricia Cryer; his father-in-law, Blaine Hunter Stevenson; and his sister-in-law, Kristen Cryer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025, at the Grovecreek Stake Center, 1176 North 730 East, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Family and friends may attend a viewing Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., or Monday at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.

For those unable to attend, the funeral will be streamed on YouTube: Bryan Cryer Funeral Service.
