Bertha Duri
- April 4, 2025

Bertha Duri, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away on April 1, 2025 at the age of 81 in South San Francisco,
CA. Full of love, laughter and resilience, she touched the lives of all who knew her.
Born in Quito, Ecuador on November 5, 1943, Bertha immigrated in her late teens to the United States in the 1960’s to pursue a life of
opportunity and, later, start a family. She first resided in San Francisco, CA and eventually settled in South San Francisco, CA. where Bertha raised her two children, Gina and Danny, and later doted lovingly on her three grandchildren.
Bertha was a dedicated and hardworking woman who took on various roles throughout her career, including stints at Planters
Peanuts and See’s Candies, before getting her most significant role as Lead Supervisor at the San Francisco International Airport, where she remained a dedicated employee for nearly 29 years.
Bertha was a true inspiration to her family and friends, always lending a helping hand to those who needed it. Bertha was also known for her delicious cooking, especially during the holidays. She often baked cookies for family and friends, but also for those in her neighborhood. Beyond cooking, Bertha loved to sew and spend time in her garden, where she could often be found tending to her fruit trees, planting vegetables and basking in the vibrant colors of her beloved flowers. Above all else, Bertha cherished her family and her home was always filled with love.
Bertha is survived by her two loving children: her daughter, Gina Eckhart, and son-in-law, JP Eckhart; her son, Danny Duri, and daughter-in-law, Lynn Duri; her grandchildren, Johann Eckhart, Juliana Duri and Sabrina Duri; her sister, Margot Gonzalez, and her nephew, Michael Caloca, and many other beloved family members and friends. Bertha was preceded in death by her mother, Ana L.Gonzalez.
In her final month of life, Bertha was aided by the wonderful care she received from Kaiser Permanente Hospice and her children, Gina and Danny.
Though her earthly journey has ended, Bertha’s love and light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts, and in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. We will forever cherish the memories of her kindness, generosity, strength and unwavering spirit. Though we will miss her dearly, we find solace knowing that wherever we go, she will always be our guiding light.
According to her wishes, services for Bertha will be private.
