Avis Joanne Bloom peacefully went home to be with her Lord on October 15, 2025. Avis was born on December 7, 1929, to Leonard and Signe (Eckman) Johnson in Chicago, Illinois, along with an older brother, Ted. Avis graduated from Senn High School in 1947. She then attended Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota for two years. She was then called to serve in God’s Invasion Army for a year.
Avis married the love of her life, Dan, on June 14,1952. She was blessed to be a stay-at-home mother to their five children. Besides being busy with her family, she volunteered often at the children’s school and church. They lived in Chicago and Northbrook, Illinois before moving to Scottsdale in 1995.
Avis was a woman of strong Christian faith and integrity. She was active in children’s and women’s ministries. Bible Study Fellowship(BSF) was very dear to her heart. Avis loved God and studying His Word, church, traveling, friends, games/puzzles and ice cream. Above all she cherished time with her beloved family.
Avis is survived by her children Rick Bloom (Suzy), Laurie Orr (Jerry), Carol Anderson (Clark), Linda Smith (Stephen) and Steve Bloom (Lisa), her grandchildren: Jessica, Jonathon, David, Jennifer, Ryan, Patrick, Matthew, Luke and Benjamin. She was blessed with 18 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled Avis on Monday, November 3, 2025, at 11:00AM at Scottsdale Bible Chapel 7601 East Shea Boulevard Scottsdale, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Scottsdale Bible Church Women’s Ministries (7601 E. Shea Blvd Scottsdale, AZ. 85260)
A light lunch will be provided following the service.
