Recent activity on the sun led to an array of northern lights, also known as aurora borealis, over Northern Nevada skies overnight. Carson Now reader Crystal Pacheco captured these images near Carson City in Washoe Valley area early Sunday morning, at around 12:30 a.m.

Space.com notes the northern lights in the nighttime sky is expected again Sunday into Monday though it is unknown at this time how far south it will reach. The aurora borealis is due to a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) that happened on the sun.

The speedy solar storm that struck Earth on June 1 was travelling around 1,938 km/s or 4.3 million mph. It’s complex and made up of material from multiple CMEs, so we could continue to feel the effects of this impact for another 24 hours, according to Space.com.
