Anne Malmquist

Anne Malmquist died unexpectedly on August 28, 2025, at El Camino Hospital with her loving husband of 41 years, Charles Malmquist, by her side.

Anne (Breder) Malmquist was born July 28, 1945, at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, NJ to Betty (Rourke) Breder and Charles M. Breder III. She was a dog lover all her life starting at a very early age with her grandmothers’ St. Bernards.

Anne graduated with honors from Lenape Regional High School in Medford, NJ in 1963, and also graduated with honors from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA in 1967. Anne’s college major was Spanish, and she adored the junior year abroad she spent at the University of Madrid. Anne was a lifelong language learner and mastered several. She turned this aptitude for language into a career as a software designer. Her first job was with the new computer program at RCA in Cherry Hill, NJ, but most of her career was spent at Technicon et al, which provided the first Medical Information System to El Camino Hospital. She worked there for over 30 years until her retirement.

When Anne retired, she turned her computing skills to the study of her family’s ancestry. She compiled a voluminous Family Tree that dates back to the 17th century. Through this research, she established an online community of relatives and friends who now mourn her passing. A highlight of her research was an extensive research trip in Germany, Austria, and Italy with her cousin, Dr. Carole Reinhart and her husband, Manfred Stoppacher.

Anne was a doting aunt to Victoria and Madeleine Watts of Shaker Heights, OH; Sarah Abrams of Frankfurt, Germany; Lydia Abrams (Dr. David Berger) of Tampa, FL; Dr. Jesse Abrams (Veronica Choque Campos) of Athens, GA; Emily Abrams-Stephens (James Stephens) of Catonsville, MD; and Daniel (Krystal) Abrams of Eugene, OR, and great aunt to Benjamin and Naomi Berger and Sam and Nate Stephens.

She is survived by her loving husband, Charles Malmquist and sisters Catherine Abrams (Dr. Harvey Abrams) of Lititz, PA, and Caroline Breder-Watts (John Watts) of Shaker Heights, OH.

A private memorial will be held by the family in New Jersey at a later date.
