Rose Deegan

Rose Mary Deegan (Sanchez), of Jersey City, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on September 6, 2023. She was 86 years of age.

Rose was born in Aibonito, Puerto Rico on December 7, 1936 to the late Julio and Consuelo Sanchez. Rose was the oldest of four children and came with her family to the US mainland when she was 11 years old. Rose was a graduate of Dickenson High School in Jersey City where she remained a lifelong resident. After high school she met the love of her life Robert J. Deegan (Bob). They fell in love and were married on April 22, 1961.

Rose worked as a salesperson at Sylvettes Hosiery in Journal Square for many years and in catering services at Christ Hospital in Jerey City where she retired in 1998 and continued as a volunteer for many years. Rose was a devout parishioner of St. Josephs Church in Jersey City where she volunteered to feed the homeless and was a member of the Rosary Society. Rose absolutely loved her frequent trips to Atlantic City with the St. Joe’s seniors’ group.

Rose was devoted to her family above all else. She left a legacy of love, compassion, and kindness to all she encountered. Her home was filled with love, homemade food, and beautiful memories. She was an amazing cook and baker and had an annual tradition of baking Christmas cookies with her grandchildren each year, which she absolutely loved. Rose loved all animals especially the family pups (Sandy, Casey, Rosie). Rose will be missed everyday by all who loved her. She was special.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert J. Deegan. Rose is the loving mother of Susan Deegan-Feeley and Robert J. Deegan Jr. Dear sister of Laura Aloisio and her husband Alfred Aloisio, Carmen Thorstenson and her beloved brother the late Michael Sanchez. Cherished grandmother of Liam Michael Feeley, Kayla Rose Feeley and Robert J. Deegan III (Bobby). Also surviving Rose are several loved nieces and nephews. A special thank you to all her caregivers at Brandywine at Mountain Ridge in Watchung. We are forever grateful for all the love and care.

Visitation will be at McLaughlin Funeral Home, 625 Pavonia Ave., Jersey City Sunday, September 10 from 3:00 to 7:00pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s RC Church on Monday morning at 10:30 AM. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
