Sally Schmickle Parker
Mauldin, South Carolina
Sally Schmickle Parker, 81, wife of Robert Allen Parker, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 after a long illness. Sally was born on August 26, 1943 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of the late Irvin and Ellyn Schmickle of Alburnett, Iowa.
Sally is survived by her husband, Robert Parker of Mauldin, South Carolina and her two daughters, Wendy (Jeff) Pace and Amy (Chris) Dunlap and three wonderful grandchildren, Joshua Pace and Reagan and Parker Dunlap, a brother Steve (Georgia) Schmickle of Marion, Iowa and a sister-in-law Llouise Schmickle of Phoenix, Arizona. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Jay Allen Parker, her parents and a brother, Dennis Schmickle.
Sally graduated from Alburnett High School and received an Elementary Education degree from the University of Iowa. She taught in Madison, Wisconsin where she met the love of her life, Bob, who she was married to for 58 years. Since Bob, originally a Florida native, didn’t enjoy the blustery winters of Wisconsin, they moved down south to South Carolina shortly after they married. They were faithful members of Mauldin First Baptist Church where they both taught Sunday School. Sally joined the Mauldin First Baptist Weekday Education Program as a 5K teacher and later became the Director of the Weekday Education program and began the Daycare Program. Sally has always enjoyed working with children and volunteered countless years teaching the 1st Grade Sunday School class, Vacation Bible School, the Good News Club and volunteering at the Peace Center for the Children’s Theater. Sally loved her grandkids and stayed very involved in their lives and attended all of their sporting events and activities. Sally also enjoyed the ladies in her Joy Sunday School class who have loved and served her well during her illness.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 28 from 1:30 until 2:15 p.m. at the Fletcher Funeral Home in Fountain Inn, South Carolina, followed by a funeral service at 2:30 p.m. The burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mauldin First Baptist Church.
