Teresa Rund

Carrboro, NC

Teresa Rund, formerly of Iowa, passed away June 27 under hospice care in her Carrboro, NC, home following a long battle with cancer at the age of 88. She was surrounded by family, faith and a lifetime of memories and traditions for others to treasure and carry on.

A Catholic graveside service is set for Thursday, Oct. 17, at 11 am with Deacon Stan Upah officiating. She will be buried next to husband, Louis Rund, at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Tama. A Celebration of Life and luncheon will follow at St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Teresa Angela Cleppe, the seventh and youngest child of Amiel and Della Cleppe, was born August 30, 1935, in Chelsea. She attended Catholic school and graduated through 8th grade. Her father’s unexpected death put high school on hold and obligated her to remain at home to help her mother with house and farm chores. She married Mr. Rund in November 1954, at St. Patrick’s Church in Tama. A daughter, Marlene Louise, arrived the following year and son, Daniel Louis, joined in 1959. As housewife and mother, she made homes in rural Toledo, Hazleton, Buckingham, Clutier and finally on a farm east of Toledo where she lived with Louis until his death in 1990. She moved to Cedar Rapids in 1999 and then to North Carolina in 2017.

Teresa eventually completed her high school GED and later earned an associate degree from Iowa State University. She also waitressed, sold Amway, and served as a teacher’s aide at the State Juvenile Home prior to its closing. She enjoyed traveling, the company of family and friends, neighborly card games and helping organize family reunions.

She is survived by Marlene in New Bern, NC and her three children: Beth, Rick and Sara, and their children El, Eli, Malachi, Mondia, Ezra and Sylvia; by Daniel and partner Kathryn Frundle in Ankeny, his daughter Erica, her husband Michael and their daughter Riley in Des Moines. A sister, Mary Tomas, survives along with many nieces, nephews and assorted relatives to cherish her memory.

In addition to Louis, Teresa was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Charlotte, brothers Theophille, Ferdinand, Edward and August and their spouses. A memorial will be announced later.
