Mary L. Boxa, 80, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids. The family will have a private graveside service at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mary was born on April 14, 1944, on a rural farm in Anamosa, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Roe Jean Edwards. After graduation she attended Secretarial School and later earned her Associate of Arts degree in Nursing Home Administration. Mary was united in marriage to Gilbert E. Boxa Jr. on May 1, 1965, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She had a diverse career with a range of roles, including nursing homeowner and administrator, restaurant owner and manager, insurance claims adjuster, bookkeeper, and office manager. Mary was a longtime leader and volunteer with various groups and causes at Sharon United Methodist Church.

Mary is survived by her loving husband, Gilbert W. Boxa Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two sons, Frederick (Tatiana) Boxa of Marietta, Georgia; Dustin (Tamara) Boxa of Fairfax, Iowa; five grandchildren, Macy Boxa, Dustin (Junior) Boxa, Jr., Michael Boxa, Declan Boxa, Fianna Boxa; a sister, Betty Kenney of Thompson Falls, Montana; and nieces, nephews, and extended loving family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son William (Billy) Boxa, three siblings, Terry Edwards, Karen Casper, and Paul Edwards.
