Fatima “Tima” Hutchings, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on May 30, 2024, in Cedar Rapids, IA. She was born on July 29, 1930, in Toledo, OH, to parents Hassan & Lila Igram. Tima was a beacon of love, kindness, and wisdom to all who knew her.
Tima was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Hutchings, with whom she shared 74 years of marriage. Tima is survived by her daughter, Lila (Brook) Hoover; son, Wally Hutchings; grandsons, Timothy (Stephanie) King, Christopher (Alicia Diehl) King, and Bryan Hutchings. Her great-grandson, Jackson King, was the light of her life. Family was paramount to Tima, and she poured her heart and soul into nurturing and supporting all of her loved ones.
Tima was a woman of many talents and passions. She was a trailblazer in the art scene, starting one of the first galleries to feature local art in Cedar Rapids (in the historic Calder House.) She was also the owner of a bridal shop (“Bridal Hutch”) and an East Asian-inspired store (“Treasure Hutch”.) Tima wore many hats throughout her life and excelled in every role.
In her free time, Tima indulged in her love for art, engaging in philosophical discussions, exploring astronomy, and staying informed about politics. Her sharp wit and warm demeanor endeared her to all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with her. Tima’s unconditional love and care touched the lives of everyone she met.
Tima’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will continue to inspire and guide us. She will be remembered for her grace, wisdom, and the unwavering love she showered upon her family and friends.
To those who have reached out with their condolences, the family extends their heartfelt gratitude. A private funeral service was held to honor Tima’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a charity of your choice in Tima’s memory.
