Donna Lee Madsen, age 87 of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away on June 15, 2024, at Crown Pointe Assisted Living. Donna was born November 20, 1936, in Omaha, the daughter of Alfred and Agnes Madsen.

In 1946, Donna and her family moved to Laurens, Iowa where she graduated from high school in 1954 and was the Salutatorian of her class. Donna graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1958 with her teaching degree. She taught high school in Algona and Emmetsburg, Iowa until 1966 when she moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to start teaching at the new Area Ten Community College, renamed in 1969 as Kirkwood Community College. She was one of the first people hired to teach at Area Ten and retired from Kirkwood in 2001. After retirement, Donna co-authored a textbook on Microsoft PowerPoint and worked for Pearson Publishing training educators on PowerPoint and her textbook.

Donna was an avid reader, loved to sew and needle point and in the last 20 years was an avid quilter. Donna loved to travel with her sister and her nephews and after retirement with her sister and grandnieces and nephews.

Donna is survived by nephews, David (Mary) Rasmussen of Blair, Nebraska and Scott (Colleen) Rasmussen of Omaha, Nebraska; grand-nieces and -nephews, Sophie Rasmussen, Bill Rasmussen, Jim Rasmussen, Maggie (Kyle) Petersen, Daniel (Amy) Rasmussen, Sean (Holly) Rasmussen, and Jack (Ashley) Rasmussen; great-great-nieces and -nephews, Rosie Leahy, Lily Rasmussen, Luke Rasmussen, Tessa Rasmussen, Teddy Petersen, Nora Petersen, Emmett Rasmussen, Oliver Rasmussen, and Archer Rasmussen; and of course her cats, Lucy, Jim and Annie.

Donna is predeceased by her parents; brother, Howard Madsen; brother-in-law, Duane Rasmussen and sister Ruth Rasmussen.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2024 from 1:00-2:00 PM at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary (441 N. Washington St, Papillion, NE, 68046), followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Donna will be laid to rest in the Lincoln Lutheran Cemetery in Orum, Nebraska.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to either Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church (720 Edgewood Road Northwest, Cedar Rapids, IA, 52405) or St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church (510 North 93rd St., Omaha, NE 68114).
