Elaine D. Kuehl, age 88, of Linwood, MI, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, May 22, 2024. Private family graveside services will be held at Pilot Grove Cemetery, rural Williamsburg with Rev. Tim Miller officiating. Memorials may be directed to Safe Haven of Iowa County. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is caring for Elaine and her family.
Elaine is survived by her five children, Chris Kuehl of Ortonville, MI, Suzanne “Kika” (Frank) Lyman of Washington Island, WI, Lisa Kuehl of Morgan Hill, CA, Kati (Jim) Kuehl Ziskie of Linwood, MI, and Kirsten (Damon) Kuehl-Musha of Carmel Valley, CA; 6 grandchildren, Andrew Lyman of Washington, D.C., Madelaine (Andrew) Schartner of Sturgeon Bay, WI, Denver Kuehl of Schwartz Creek, MI, Bryce Kuehl of Hadley, MI, Aubriana Musha of Carmel Valley, CA, and Chase Ziskie of Ortonville, MI; two great-grandchildren, Frank and Josephine Schartner of Sturgeon Bay, WI.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dick Kuehl, and her brother Duane White.
Elaine Dee White was born July 15, 1935, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, the daughter of Darrell White (Williamsburg Large and Small Animal Vet) and Edith Neville White. She attended Mary Welsh Elementary in Williamsburg and graduated from Mikana High School in 1953, where she participated in cheerleading, choir, band, and drama. She was the class secretary. She went on to attend Stephens College where she received her associates of arts degree. Elaine married Dick Kuehl on June 8, 1957, in Williamsburg. She worked for American Airlines in the customer service department. She was a translation teacher for the University of Mexico, spent several years caring for her 5 children until the last reached high school age, worked in retail sales and as a veterinary assistant and finally for a bank in Michigan from which she retired. Elaine was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in ¬¬¬Williamsburg, IA; the Visioning 2000 Club; and the Garden Club. She enjoyed painting, gardening, knitting, sewing, cross-stitch, crossword and regular puzzles, tennis, reading, and geology. As a veterinarian’s daughter, she had a love of animals of all shapes and sizes and raised everything from cats, dogs, chickens, quail, skunks, racoon, geese, etc. She lived abroad with her husband in Mexico, Columbia (daughters Suzanne and Lisa’s birthplace) and Panama (daughter Kati’s birthplace). In the United States, she lived in New York City (eldest son Chris’s birthplace), Iowa (3 times – daughter Kirsten’s birthplace), Minnesota and Michigan (2 times).
