Yolanda Andona Azcarraga
- May 20, 2024
Yolanda Azcárraga was born on August 8, 1929, in Havana, Cuba. Since 1992, Sister Yolanda Azcárraga has been a cherished member of our church. She was a resilient, determined, and compassionate woman, whose love endeared her to both the young and old alike at our Oasis of Blessing Church. Recognizing her divine calling, she pursued studies at the Ebenezer Bible Institute to equip herself for ministry, particularly to those most in need. For over 15 years, she faithfully partnered with our brother Cirilo Cedeño in preaching to prisoners in Ohio, embodying her commitment to the Lord.
Yolanda, a devoted believer, held her late husband Ángel Azcárraga dear in her heart, fondly describing him as a remarkably handsome man with a passion for acting. Yet, she too had her own passions for music and dance. Her pride in her children, María, Ana, Odalys, Diana, and Ricardo, was evident, as she cherished each one uniquely.
Respected by all, Yolanda served as a teacher and assistant in children’s classes, arriving every Thursday with a large purse containing her Bible, hymns book, instructional materials, and treats for the children. Beyond this, she diligently managed the Transportation Committee as secretary, guiding new drivers. The instructions for new drivers were to look for Yolanda first, she will tell you where you should go, and which brothers you are going to pick up. Once Yolanda got on the bus, she began to call each brother and sister telling them: we are on our way to pick you up, no, don’t make us wait. How can we forget Yolanda the Cuban because with how much joy we saw her worship and glorify the name of the Lord, with tambourine in hand she sang, worshiped and danced to the glory of the Lord.
Yolanda’s passing marks the loss of an extraordinary woman, a steadfast believer, and a beloved member of our church community. As we bid her farewell, we take solace in knowing she now resides in the heavenly realms. Yolanda, we will see you in the glorious morning. To those inquiring about Yolanda Azcárraga, affectionately known as the Cuban of Oasis, we share that she has transitioned to the Celestial Mansions above.
