Lela Margaret Keepers (nee Jones), 85, passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 17, 2023, at her home in Oconomowoc, Wis.

Lela was born on Nov. 21, 1937, to her parents Grace (nee Rummens) and Edwin Jones in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was united in marriage to her husband of 62 years, Roger Keepers, on Aug. 12, 1961, in Cedar Rapids.

Lela was employed for over 25 years as a teacher at several schools including the Whitnall School District. She served our Lord and Savior in everything she did including singing with Roger, being a part of Gideon’s ministry, and serving others in multiple capacities in her church and community.

Lela is survived by her beloved husband, Roger Keepers of Oconomowoc; as well as children Kim Keepers of Jacksonville, Fla., Kara Keepers of Oconomowoc, Wis., Kyle (Theresa) Keepers of Hartford, Wis., Kirk (Cynthia) Keepers of Madison, Ala., Kristin (Michael) Boock of Corvallis, Ore., Kevin (Shannon) Keepers of Sussex, Wis.; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Charlene (Jim) Liesveld; sisters-in-law, Patricia Love and Linda Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Grace Jones; brother, Leslie Jones; brother-in-law, John Love.

A celebration of Lela’s life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023 at Shimon Funeral Home in Hartford, Wis. Family will greet relatives and friends beginning at 10 a.m. with a service at 11:30 a.m. Burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hartford will take place after the service followed by a luncheon at Shimon Funeral Home.
