The world just lost the most amazing, loving mother and grandmother on Palm Sunday. Marlys Naeoma Knott, 93, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on April 2, 2023, at Hiawatha Care Center. Visitation has been set for Friday, April 7, 2023, from 10 to 11 a.m., with Funeral Service to follow at 11 a.m. at Marion First United Methodist Church, 5050 REC Drive, Marion. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Cemetery.
Marlys was born March 14, 1930, in Paris, Iowa, the daughter of Alvin and Vera (Renfer) Andrews. She graduated from Troy Mills High School where she was a standout on the women’s basketball team. She married Everett Allan Knott on April 11, 1952. She raised three loving children and enjoyed camping and
boating as a family. Marlys worked several part-time retail jobs, by far her favorite was selling AVON products. She dedicated many years to her favorite organizations where she made many longtime friends; a few of her favorites were the church Auxiliary club, and TOPS. Baking and cooking were her passion for years. She is well known for her hand-knitted Christmas stockings and will be fondly remembered for the numerous that still hang on fireplace mantels across the country.
Marlys deeply loved her family, and they will cherish memories of her joyful, playful spirit, her dance moves, her jokes, her kolaches, rhubarb pies, and the many holiday celebrations with family.
Marlys is survived by three children, Allan (Pam) Knott of Irving, Texas, Julie (Ric) Klingler of Lisbon, Iowa, and Jeffrey (Laurie) Knott of Marion, Iowa; four grandchildren, Kory (Jennifer) Knott of Plano, Texas, Barry (Brandi) Knott of Dallas, Texas, Lindsey (Austin) Deutsch of Waukee, Iowa, and Andrew Knott of Urbandale, Iowa; six great-grandchildren, Addison, Ainsley and Carter Knott, Taylor, Zak and Reed Knott; two brothers, Leon (Nancy) Andrews of Tennessee and Ronald Andrews of Minnesota; and one sister, Margie Mahoney of Marion, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Everett and a sister, Ann Frame.
