Janice Dean “Jan” Shilling

Janice Deane “Jan” Shilling, 82, of New Philadelphia, passed away on February 3, 2022, in her home following a period of declining health.

Born in New Philadelphia on December 12, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Doyle Dean and E. Mae (Jeffries) Fisher. After graduating from New Philadelphia High School in 1957, she married John U. Shilling on November 15, 1957. They raised two children and enjoyed forty-four years of marriage before John died on January 16, 2002. She was devoted to her family and in later years loved spending time with her grandchildren and, more recently, a great-grandchild.

Jan inherited her father’s artistic eye for color and shared that gift with area businesses, her family, and her friends by creating beautiful floral arrangements and providing interior decorating advice.

Surviving are her children, Julie (Marion) Troyer of New Philadelphia and Jamie Shilling of Calistoga, California; her grandchildren, Tommy (Casidhe) and Michelle Troyer, and her great-granddaughter, Anna Troyer.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Fisher.

Private family services were held and Jan was laid to rest alongside her husband at Calvary Cemetery in Dover.

Memorial contributions in Jan’s memory may be directed to the First United Church of Christ, 526 W. Main St., Sugarcreek, OH 44681.
