Birdie Mae Walker entered this world on July 14, 1941, in Wheelock, Texas, to the
loving embrace of her parents, Lee and Minerva Walker. Birdie was surrounded by siblings and family. Being the cherished fifth child amongst her sibling Archie Lee Walker, William Walker, Betty Walker, Lloyd Walker and Lee Walker.
During her young formative years, she was raised in the home of one special cousin, J. Marvin Walker, who she considered to be her cousin/brother alongside her crazy cousin/ sister Barbra Walker- Guillory. From a young age, Birdie’s early years were filled with warmth, love, and a strong foundation of faith.
Birdie’s family later moved to Bryan Texas soon after she was born. She pursued her education with zeal, attending Carver Elementary School before graduating from E.A. Kemp High School in Bryan in 1960. Birdie’s passion for caregiving led her to nursing school in Bryan, where she excelled in her profession, shaping lives in Bryan, Navasota, and Hearne.
Birdie was a proud mother to her two children, Delton Rodgers and Lawana Rodgers, and later found happiness with
her beloved Glenn Williams and got an amazing bonus Daughter Angela Williams-Anderson.
After a fulfilling career, she retired from Navasota Regional Hospital in 2003. Birdie enjoyed exploring the beauty of the country and attending church. Birdie sought solace in Lewisville, Texas, to be close to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, joining Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church as an active member.
Retirement didn’t stop Birdie for long, as she joyfully returned to work at Rockbrook Nursing Home in 2020. Embracing her life journey, Birdie cherished moments with family and friends, finding joy in exploring thrift stores and creating lasting memories.
She was reunited with her loved ones who passed before her, including her Father Lee Walker, Mother Minerva, dear Brother Archie, Lloyd, William, Sister Betty, Daughter Lawana, and daughter-in-law Pamela.
Birdie’s legacy lives on through her brother and sister-in-law, Lee and Molly Walker, her Son, Delton Rodgers, her Grandchildren, Alexis & David Martin, Delton Rodgers Jr., Devon Rodgers, Taylor Rose, and Naomi Lewis, and her
three precious great-grandchildren, Olivia Martin and David Martin the 2nd, and Jaleah Lewis.
Birdie Mae Rodgers will forever be remembered for her unwavering faith, dedication to family, and heartfelt care for others, leaving behind a lifetime of love and cherished memories for all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will never be forgotten.
