Daniel Charles Bailey of Bellingham, MA died peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. He was born on October 26, 1956, in Hartford, CT to Eugene and Joan Bailey. He attended St. Christopher School in East Hartford, CT followed by East Catholic High School in Manchester, CT.
Dan served in the United States Navy from 1974 to 1980. He was assigned crew of the USS Cavalla as a radar specialist. At the time of his passing, he was a valuable and devoted member of the Hewlett Packard Enterprise as an Engineering Resolution Team manager on the Wireless and Network Management Team. He worked many roles in this field for 30+ years.
Dan was very involved with basketball and basketball officiating. He was a past president and a 20-year member of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials Board 208 in Milford, MA. He spent countless hours helping to teach and train new officials on Board 208. Additionally, Dan was a beloved member of the Bellingham Youth Basketball Association serving the league for 34 years. He most recently served as the League Director of Officials where he trained hundreds of high school students to officiate the game he loved. Many of Dan’s “student” officials have gone on to become patched basketball officials with IAABO Board 208. Dan’s impact on basketball officiating in the local area and to basketball in Bellingham as a whole cannot be overstated and will be felt for years to come. Family was at the center of everything Dan did—his greatest pride and happiness came from being a husband, father and grandfather. As a sports enthusiast he loved rooting for all Boston sports and was a dedicated fan of the UConn Huskies. But he did not discriminate, from horse racing to the Indy 500 there was not a sport he didn’t like! When not watching sports, he was listening to Jimmy Buffet as a proud parrot head (fins up!) and was our resident weather man, and we lovingly called him ‘Doppler Dan”. He was a parishioner and choir member of St. Blaise Catholic Church and a 50 year leader of a popular football pool that you couldn’t say no to. He devoted his life to the care and happiness of others, always putting their needs before his own. The difference he made in the lives of those who knew him was
immeasurable and will be remembered always.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 37 years, Eileen, his son Luke Bailey, Joe Tagliaferri (wife Michelle), Courtney Tagliaferri (husband Matt) and his loving grandchildren Joseph and Jackson Tagliaferri. He is survived by his siblings Barbara Kautz, Michelle Hollick, John and Judy Kautz, Gene and Lucille Bailey, Jody and Gary Waldron, David and Karen Bailey, MaryBeth and Ed Dziubinski and many beloved nieces and nephews. He will join his parents Eugene Bailey, Joan Bailey and Nancy Bailey, his sisters Patricia Bailey and Barbara “BJ” Bailey and brother Mark Bailey.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate doctors, nurses, and staff at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dana-Farber Milford and Boston locations for the gentle and dedicated care they provided to Dan and our family.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday November 2, 2025 from 2pm-5pm at Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress St, Milford, MA. A mass will be celebrated on Monday November 3, 2025 at 11:00am at Sacred Heart of Jesus, 187 Hopedale St., Hopedale, MA.
