Carol Napier

Carol Jean Napier, 87, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Concordia Village, with her children by her side. She was born on March 26, 1938 in Salem, Oregon, the daughter of Roy and Marian (Colvin) Penn. She married the love of her life, Donald E. Napier, on August 1, 1959 and he preceded her in death on August 5, 2010.

She was also preceded death by her parents; son, Michael E. Napier; and two brothers.

She is survived by her four daughters, Mary (Mike Gagne) Napier of Chapel Hill, NC, Lori (David) Laaker of Lexington, KY, Susan (Alan) Carlson of Ball Ground, GA, and Karen (James) Vost of Springfield, IL; eight grandchildren, Sarah (Noah) Pace, Evan Gagne, Kyle (Jenn) Laaker, Cory (Jenna) Laaker, Collin Laaker, Daniel (Olivia Krohn) Carlson, Bradley Vost and Ryan Vost; two great-grandchildren, Quinn and Eden Pace; and six nieces and nephews.

Carol moved to Springfield, IL at a young age and was a graduate of Ursuline Academy. She then attended St. John’s School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse, working at SIU School of Medicine for 21 years until retirement.

Carol was a lifelong Cubs fan and loved rooting for them any chance she could. She also was a devoted fan of U of I sports and huge supporter. She loved road trips with family and friends, especially to the Carolina beaches and of course to any casino within reach. She was also an avid reader and loved picking up crime thrillers from various authors. Her love, energy and companionship will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Cremation will be arranged by Staab Funeral Home – Springfield and private graveside services will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
