Mary A. Schumpf, 86, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Merrick, NY, on April 1, 1939, she was a daughter of the late David and Hazel (Kandelin) Tutrone. On September 2, 1956, she was united in marriage to the late George J. Schumpf.
Mary was a housekeeper for several local families for many years. A woman of strong faith, she was a devoted member of the Roosevelt Seventh-day Adventist Church in Fulton, NY. She always had a beautiful vegetable garden, which she tended with care and pride each season.
She fought the good fight; she finished the race. She will joyfully hear the words, “Well done good and faithful servant,” from her Lord. Her faith was her guiding light and she now rests in God’s eternal peace.
Mary is survived by three daughters, Debra Quay (James), Theresa Dolan, and Maryann Georgia; two sons, George Schumpf, Jr. and Louis Schumpf (Judy); two sisters, Hazel Tyrie and Barbara Topal; two brothers, Thomas Tutrone (Carrie) and Bud Tutrone (Cherie); fourteen grandchildren, Carrie Weaver (Chance), Emily Hill (Viplav), Christopher Dolan (Pilar), Eric Dolan (Amanda), Rachael Everheart (Daniel), George Wishart (Sue), Frank Wishart (Bonnie), Keith Wishart (Kimberly), Kelly Wishart (Cheryl), Victoria Wishart (Mike), Reta Mahl, Winnie Lyman (Steven), Brandon Georgia (Carli), and Lucy Schumpf (Mickey); and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Gary Tutrone; grandson, Michael Georgia; two brothers-in-law, Charles Tyrie, Sr. and Warren Topal; grandson-in-law, Michael Mahl; and her beloved dog, Mandy.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 25th, at 2:00 p.m. at Roosevelt Seventh-day Adventist Church, 4456 Rt. 49, Fulton, NY 13069. There are no calling hours.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc. 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440.
