Nancy Jacobs Hutchinson, a loving and devoted Christian mother of four, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025 at the age of 88 in Tallahassee, Florida.
She was born on February 4, 1937. She was preceded in death by her parents, W.C. and Marjorie Jacobs and her husband Deniver G. Hutchinson.
Nancy was born in Quincy, Florida where she spent most of her life. She graduated from Quincy High School and from Florida State University where she played the clarinet as a member of the Marching Chiefs. Nancy was passionate about Florida State University football, attending most home and many away games since 1952. The day before she passed away, she received a plaque from FSU, recognizing over 50 years as a Seminole Booster.
She retired at the age of 56 from the State of Florida in 1993 after working there for 33 years. During her retirement, she continued to work at times, take care of her 4 grandchildren when they came along and fish. Nancy loved to fish for bream and bass in local fresh lakes and rivers with Denny. She also loved to play golf at the Golf Club in Quincy.
Nancy always tried to do her best at everything, including Christmas and birthdays. She would always insist that her kids and grandkids birthdays be celebrated in a big way. She always made sure that everyone had what they needed. She attended every possible athletic event of the kids and then the grandkids and loved every minute.
Nancy was loved and respected by her family, former co-workers and church members. She was a long time member of the Washington St. Church of Christ in Quincy and then at the Timberlane Church of Christ in Tallahassee. Her Christianity was a vital part of who she was and she worked hard to attend services and to raise her children and grandchildren in the same way. She was a loyal friend, mother and grandmother with the most generous heart and quick wit.
Nancy was an only child, but she had many cousins who were like siblings to her. When they got together, there was lots of food and laughter.
Not enough can be said about how much Nana loved her grandchildren. Once they came along, she became Nana to almost everyone, including the grandchildren’s spouses. She attended every game or event and helped to provide great Christmases and birthdays and would ask about them every single day.
The family has been blessed by her and thankful that she was such a great parent and grandparent. Not enough can be said to express the loss that is felt.
Nancy is survived by her 4 children, Hamp Hutchinson, Kelli Bundy (husband Todd), Kara Payne and Kyle Hutchinson. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Katie Gilmore (husband Paul), Marjorie Bundy, Dylan Payne (wife Hannah) and Cole Payne.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025 at the Timberlane Church of Christ, 3569 Timberlane School Rd, Tallahassee, FL. A visitation will be held at 10:00 am, with a service to follow at 11:00 am. Interment will be held privately at Hillcrest Cemetery in Quincy, Florida.
Charles McClellan Funeral Home, 15 S. Jackson St., Quincy, FL., 850-556-0815.
