Margaret Smith

Margaret A. Smith, 78, of Scranton died Thursday October 9, 2025 at Geisinger CMC in Scranton following an illness. She is the widow of Carl R. Smith who died October 13, 2024.

Born October 23, 1946 in Peckville, she was the daughter of the late William and Anna (Blanche) Deemer, and attended Dunmore High School. Margaret enjoyed trips to the casino, playing cards on Saturday night, family outings, birthdays and holidays spent with family.

Surviving is her son Edward Blackledge and wife Alice; her grandchildren: Aiden and Adrianna Blackledge, who were the light of her life, and the apples of her eye. Three brothers: Nick and Frank Janssen, and William Deemer, and wife Marlene; niece Holly Lewis and husband Jeff; nephew Mark Deemer, and wife Lisa; (4) great- nephews: John Francis, and wife Sam, Mark, Michael, and Matthew, and wife Maura; great-nieces: Ashley Rodriquez and husband Jason, Samantha Scripp, and partner John; six great-great nieces and nephews: Jayson, Aaliyah, Ekiana, Logan, Rodriguez, Sophia Francis,

and Matthew Deemer.

She was preceded in death by her sister and best friend Catherine Deemer Sparaney; and her brother Thomas Janssen.

A blessing service will be conducted Wednesday October 15th at 12:00 noon in the Michael P. Glinsky Funeral Home, 129 Grant Street, Olyphant, PA.

Friends will be received on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the funeral home.

Interment and rite of committal will be conducted at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Blakely, PA
