Michael Allan DeVito, of Mamaroneck, passed away on Friday September 5th. He was 74. Born in the Bronx, February 15, 1951, to Frank and Rosalie DeVito. Michael earned two master’s degrees and pursued a long and successful career in education. He was known to be a life-long learner and instilled a love of learning to his students. For 30 years, Michael taught English at Port Chester Middle School, helping the school to earn recognition in the Blue Ribbon Schools Program. While there and even after retirement, he served as the AFT Union Representative. He later went on to earn the status of Professor at Westchester Community College, where he recently became Senior Adjunct Professor. Michael loved life and being with his family. He enjoyed walking every morning, reading, drawing, sipping on hot coffee and making cakes and pies for anyone who would drop in for a visit. He loved being a dad. A rail enthusiast, Michael enjoyed setting up his trains with his son Michael, decorating for Halloween, and watching scary movies. He was also a self-taught pianist and played at Carnegie Hall with his daughter, Carissa Rose and officiated the wedding of his eldest daughter, Camila Ann. Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Rosemary (nee Rella), Camila Ann Gonzales (Shelton), Carissa Rose, Michael Laurence; and his loving siblings Richard, Frank, Carole Lynn Mohl (nee DeVito), and sisters-in-law Lucille Rella and Teri Rella. To honor Michael’s life, family and friends will gather Wednesday, September 10th from 3pm – 7pm at Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home in Mamaroneck, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, September 11th at 11am at St. Gregory the Great in Harrison, NY. Interment will follow immediately at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye, NY.
