Rick Montoya Sr. December 23, 1959 – July 17, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rick Montoya Sr., who left us peacefully on July 17th at the age of 65, at his home in Las Cruces, New Mexico, surrounded by his loving family.

Rick was born on December 23, 1959, in Las Cruces, where he spent his life rooted in community and family. He was the devoted husband of Tami Montoya, proud father of Rick Montoya Jr. and Randy Montoya, and cherished father-in-law to Lori and Tatiana Montoya. He was a loving grandfather to David, Michael, Kevin, and Giuliana Montoya, and a joyful great-grandfather to Rylan Montoya.

Known for his quick wit, generous spirit, and deep love of baseball, Rick brought laughter and warmth wherever he went. He enjoyed the outdoors, watching sports, and spending time tinkering in his garage. A lifelong New Mexico State Aggie fan, Rick dedicated 35 years of service as an electrician at NMSU, from 1976 until his retirement in 2011. His greatest passion was his family and friends, and he embraced life with a smile and his signature phrase….. “Another beautiful Aggie day.”

Rick is survived by his brothers Johnny, Danny, and Frank Montoya. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roberto and Valentina Montoya, his brother Robert Montoya, and his sister Terry Perez.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 23rd at La Paz Perches-Graham’s Funeral Home, 555 West Amador Ave., Las Cruces, NM. Public viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Rosary at 10:00 a.m. and Mass Scripture at 10:30 a.m. All who knew and loved Rick are invited to attend and celebrate his life.
