Dixie Perry

Dixie Lee Perry passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, in Georgetown, DE. Born on April 7, 1937, in Washington, D.C. to the late John G. and Hazel (Bissett) Phillips and grew up in Cabin John, MD. Dixie’s life touched everyone she met.

Dixie was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Perry and the mother of the late John Dennis, and daughter-in-law Jennine Dennis. She was the dear sister of Anita Wolfe Adams, widow of the late Thomas Adams. She was the stepmother to Tamia VanNest and her husband Clint.

A grandmother, Dixie’s legacy continues through her grandchildren, Patricia Snowden and her husband Matthew, Billy Dennis, and Brette VanNest Burgos and her husband Ronald. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Hailey and Gavin Snowden. Her memory will be cherished by her many nieces and nephews, including Lauri-Ann McHugh and her husband Danny, and Wendy Wheeler and her husband Drew, as well as her great-nieces Jessica Kai McHugh Vasquez, her husband Jeremy, and their children Kais, Alaric, and Eden Ray, and Brittany Wurdeman, her husband Justin, and their son Landon.  A lifetime of memories with cousin Kay Davis and a host of beloved cousins, aunts, uncles, friends and her devoted cat Missy.

Dixie was a graduate of Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, MD, and furthered her education with college courses at Broward Community College in Hollywood, FL. Her career was marked by her role as a Mobile Home Park General Manager throughout different locations in Florida. After moving to Murphy, NC, she found joy in working at the local florist and ice cream shop, bringing smiles to the faces of customers with her friendly conversation and service.

A lifelong fan of the Washington Redskins and NASCAR racing, Dixie’s enthusiasm for her favorite teams was infectious. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, finding enjoyment in the quiet moments spent with a good book or challenging puzzle. In her younger years, Dixie enjoyed a spirit of adventure, riding her Harley.

As we bid farewell to Dixie Lee Perry, we celebrate a life well-lived. Though she has departed from this world, her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were touched by her presence.

A service will be held at Robert A. Pumphrey Funeral Home, 300 W. Montgomery Avenue, Rockville MD 20850 on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 1:00 PM.  The family will begin receiving guests at 12:30 pm.  Interment to follow to Parklawn Memorial Park.
