Barbara Jean Porters Spielman Munson, age 80, of McHenry, IL, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 31, 2025.
Barbara was born on April 21, 1945, in Chicago, IL, to Sylvia M. (Fullick) and Earl E. Porters. As a young girl, she moved with her family to McHenry, where she would spend most of her life. She graduated from McHenry High School in 1964 and soon after married the love of her life, Ralph W. Munson, on June 5, 1965. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Barbara Jean Munson, on December 11, 1969.
Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was known for her kind heart, strong spirit, and the deep love she had for her family. Her home was always a place of warmth and welcome.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ralph W. Munson; her daughter Barbara Jean and son-in-law John H. Lanway; her parents Sylvia (Elmer) Spielman and Earl (Eva) Porters, Sr.; her sister Julia M. Manginen; her brothers William (Susan) Manginen, Jerry Porters, Charles Spielman, and Marvin Darwin.
Barbara is survived by her cherished grandson, Jarrett W. Lanway; her sister Phyllis Spielman Zornig; her brothers Earl Jr. (Paulette) Porters and Jeffery (Cynthia) Porters; her sister-in-law Karen Dawson; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Barbara’s legacy of love, resilience, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
