Ramona Michaels

Ramona Michaels, 91, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025, in her beloved hometown of San Francisco, California. Born on August 5, 1933, Ramona lived a vibrant life rooted in faith, family, and an unshakable zest for living.

Affectionately known as “Nana Banana,” Ramona was cherished for her gregarious spirit and boundless energy. Her playful humor, big heart, and larger-than-life personality left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Ramona devoted much of her life to serving others, especially through her roles as a cherished parishioner at Most Holy Redeemer and an Associate of the Sisters of the Presentation. She was a steady, loving presence for all—from parishioners and people experiencing homelessness to those affected by the AIDS crisis. As a fierce and faithful ally to the LGBTQ community, Ramona met everyone exactly where they were, welcoming them with dignity and compassion.

Ramona found her greatest joy in her family. She was deeply proud of her four daughters: Victoria LaFrance (Tom), Karen Freedman (Dave), Renee Pawsey, and Lauren Densley, as well as her six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Every meal, story, and adventure shared with them brought her immeasurable joy.

Ramona’s legacy is one of laughter, love, and unwavering kindness. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.

A Memorial Mass will be held on August 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Most Holy Redeemer Church, 100 Diamond Street, San Francisco.
