James Philip Vallar

James P. Vallar (Jim), passed away on November 4, 2021, at the age of 92, at Carolina Village Medical Center, in Hendersonville, NC.  Jim was born in Berlin, Germany, to George P. Vallar and Marguerite Hoare (Vallar) Swift.

Jim served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1954 and attended Fort Schuyler Maritime College, earning a BS in Mechanical Engineering.

Jim and Ginny, his wife of 68 years, initially made their family home in NY, and later Jim’s career as Electrical Sales Engineer & Program Manager led them to homes in Georgia, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. Before retiring, he and Ginny started a small business, “Special Care.” which offered home companion/aide services in the north Philadelphia area.  After retiring they moved to Venice Florida and also had a summer home in Alto, New Mexico.  They eventually settled in Cummings Cove in Hendersonville, North Carolina in 2001, and then moved to Carolina Village in 2010, where Jim enjoyed wonderful friends and activities, including playing with the Hand Chimers.

Jim followed his love for the sea and fishing, which lead him to own many boats throughout the years, from a homemade sailboat to runabout motorboats, and finally to a 36′ trawler.  In addition to his powerboats, he built quite a few intricate ship models.

Jim was a member of Hendersonville Trinity Presbyterian Church.  Throughout the years, Jim stayed involved doing church and community service, including volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, AARP Tax Preparation, Interfaith Assistance Ministry (IAM Hendersonville), Hendersonville Little Theater designing and building sets, and showing Saturday night movies at Carolina Village.

Jim enjoyed the outdoors, and spent many years tending to vegetable and flower gardens, golfing, family camping, and maintaining his birdfeeders.  He loved all animals, especially dogs.  He and Ginny traveled the world to many unusual and exotic places including China, riverboat cruises in Europe, a ship excursion through the Panama Canal, and a safari in Tanzania.  His last trip was seeing the beautiful mountains while driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Jim’s intense blue eyes and very dry sense of humor will be missed by many.  The family is very grateful for the kindness and compassionate care given to him, from everyone at Carolina Village Care & Med Centers.

Jim is survived by his wife, Virginia (Ginny) M. Vallar; daughter Barbara Russell of Georgia; son Tom Vallar and wife Becky of New Hampshire; grandchildren Benjamin Russell, Daniel Vallar, and wife Kanako, Brittany Vallar; great-grandchildren Noah Vallar, Kai Vallar; sister Marguerite (Peg) Swift; nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life and Memories for Jim will be planned for a future time.
