Joseph T. Paolillo of Harrison, NY, passed away peacefully at home on July 15, 2025, having just celebrated his 90th birthday on Independence Day. The oldest of four children born to Pasquale and Mildred (née De Muro) Paolillo, Joseph was a native of Mount Vernon but spent his formative years in Momauguin, CT, later moving to Yonkers, NY, where he graduated from Saunders Trades and Technical High School. Resourceful, outgoing, and tirelessly hardworking, Joe tried his hand at many jobs over the years, from picking beans as a young boy to selling Fuller brushes and owning and operating his own Good Humor Truck. But it was during a placement with Bliss Pest Control that he discovered his calling, starting Joseph’s Pest Control in 1975 and providing reliable, personable service for nearly half a century.
“Joe P,” as he was widely known, had a true gift for making friends and having fun wherever he went. His blend of charm and Joe DiMaggio-esque looks enabled him to woo and wed his adored Scottish bride, Mary (nee Hamill), to whom he remained happily married from 1960 until her death in 2013. Their life together was a good and full one spent raising their three children and getting into adventures big and small with their wide circle of friends and in-laws. When not on the job, Joe enjoyed fishing, bowling and playing cards, and found much good fellowship at the Masonic Lodge and as an “honorary Scotsman” in the Clan Bruce. He always enjoyed a trip, whether impromptu or planned, to Atlantic City or Las Vegas, and in his later years was a devoted fan of the Mets and classic film (especially war epics). More than anything, he loved laughing, connecting with people, and discussing the good old days over tasty food and a little Scotch. A warm and genuine man, he will be terribly missed.
He is survived by his loving children, Gary Paolillo, Jack Paolillo (Annie) and Julie Sibilla (Anthony); cherished grandchildren, Austin, Carly and Nicole; and great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Beatrice, Julius, Lucille and Teddy. He will also be mourned by his dear sisters Dolores Vance (Andrew) and Lorraine Tarascio and his sister-in-law, Sheila Paolillo. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Lawrence Paolillo; daughter-in-law, Janice Steponaitis Paolillo; and brother-in-law, Rocco Tarascio.
To honor Joseph’s life, family and friends will gather on Tuesday July 22, 2025, from 4:00 – 8:00pm at Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home 767 E. Boston Post Road in Mamaroneck, NY. A brief service will be held at 7:30pm. Committal is private.
