Daniel “Dan” Wilson of Owens Cross Roads passed away Tuesday, surrounded by close friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Verna Sue Wilson; his father, Toye Wilson; his sisters, Ann Thompson and Thelma Thompson; and his brothers, James and George Wilson. Dan is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Judy Meeks Wilson; daughter Amy Wilson Largen (Brian); son Keith Wilson (Kym); granddaughters Carlee and Caroline Largen, Kelsey Wilson, and Elizabeth Burton; and grandsons Mason Wilson and Christopher Burton.
Dan was an avid gardener, loved Alabama football, and watching NASCAR. He served his country in the Army during his early years. Dan was a hard worker, retiring from a career of being a long range truck driver for many years.
Visitation will be on Thursday, 11 am to 1 pm, at New Hope Funeral Home. A graveside service at Gibson Cemetery will follow at 2 pm, with Doug Browner officiating. Pallbearers will be Toby Maples, Logan Maples, David Wayne Meeks, Doug Mefford, Joshua Vaughn, and Camden Kendrick. Honorary pallbearer will be Jerry Craig.
The family would like to thank North Alabama Hospice for the care they extended to Dan in his final days, as well as Dr. Walker’s office and staff, Dr. Knott and his staff throughout his battle with kidney disease. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the National Kidney Foundation at the following locations:
