Erich Engelbrecht

Erich Engelbrecht, age 74 of Plainfield, IL unexpectedly passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021 at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, IL. He was born on March 5, 1947 in Rodenburg, Germany the son of Friedrich and Emma (Pankratz) Engelbrecht.

Erich was united in marriage on January 20, 1973 to the former Miss Chari Sherman and they spent the next 48 years happily together. Mr. Engelbrecht was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the War in Vietnam; he also owned and operated, with his father and brother, a successful machining business for 32 years in Montgomery, IL. He was a longtime member of Helmar Lutheran Church in Newark, IL, & was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Erich is survived by his wife, Chari Engelbrecht of Plainfield, IL; his children, Craig (Betsy Hamilton) Engelbrecht of Naperville, IL and Candice (Timothy) Assell of Millington, IL; his grandchildren, Noah, Moriah and Josiah Assell of Millington, IL; his sister, Linda (David) Freeman of Spokane, WA; his niece, Brianna Freeman and nephew, Davis Freeman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Friedrich and Emma Engelbrecht; and his brother and sister-in-law, Emil and Christa Engelbrecht.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 12, 2021 at Helmar Lutheran Church, 11935 Lisbon Road, Newark, IL with Pastor Steven Lombardo, officiating. Interment will follow in the Helmar Cemetery in Newark, IL.

Friends may visit from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, are welcome to remain for the Service and luncheon on Friday, November 12, 2021 at the Church in Newark, IL.
